We are a small non-profit Hiking and Backpacking group, the only expense is the Land Management Organization’s fees that they charge for Wilderness Permits, approximately $5, plus any Entrance or Camping Fees.
Being a small group is advantageous because in some areas there are a minimal number of slots available from the Land Management. Consider joining us.
Our group is composed of like-minded individuals for the enjoyment of outdoor activities.
Planned and coordinated self-paced treks will be offered on a first come first served basis and supported on multiple levels through training and trail supervision. There will be no limitation on activities – Day Hikes, Weekend or a whole week (or more) wilderness outings, White-Water Rafting, Snow Shoeing, Cross-Country Skiing, and ‘Family Camp’ – all for beginners or advanced members.
We are the original “Central Valley Hiking and Backpacking Group” It was founded in Dec. 2009; we are a non-profit and run entirely by unpaid volunteers and dedicated to the enjoyment of nature and wilderness through hiking & backpacking.
We are NOT a MEETUP Group or an outfitter or a guide service.
We celebrated our 14th Anniversary in December 2023 as a Backpacking and Hiking Group. If you are interested, come, and give us a try!
Members are welcome from Lodi / Stockton / Turlock / East Bay Area / Sacramento Regions and anywhere else you are willing to travel from.
We roam the High Sierras of Lassen, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Point Reyes, Yosemite National Parks, Desolation Wilderness, Mt. Whitney, The Lost Coast, and the Coastal Range etc. We backpacked in the Grand Canyon and Washington State.
You handle your food and transportation.
There may be ride-sharing available with a nominal charge for gas to the driver.
There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about us. We hope you enjoy our site and take a moment to drop us a line.

Past - Boy Scouts of America Volunteer
I have been backpacking and hiking for over 25 years.
I have mostly traveled Yosemite and Emigrant Wilderness areas.
I practice “Leave No Trace” until I get it perfect.
I like to travel light-weight and am trying to go ultra-light.
-- It’s a work in progress.
Just want to enjoy the outdoors with other like-minded enthusiasts.
In terms of experience and hours on the trail, I am the weak link in the group. Backpacking and hiking excursions have been primarily in the western US, Canada, and Mexico.
Yet, I long for more.
Given my pleasant Irish nature and ability to spin a yarn around the campfire, the group seeks my company on the trail for food and drink. I don’t believe one has to eat poorly on the trail and have demonstrated strategies for food preservation, enhanced nutritional intake, in addition, simply, to taste.
Come wine & dine with us in the wilderness.
Although I no longer backpack, my enthusiasm for hiking is unwavering. As the webmaster of this website, I proudly share my knowledge and experiences.
Join us in discovering the incredible beauty of nature, and let's embrace every adventure that awaits us on the trails!
I am the webmaster for this website and the
Backpackers are crazy people...
They will drive 200 miles or more, just to go for a walk!

“In this great wilderness, leave no more trace of your passing,
than a bird through the sky, or a fish in the water.”
